Local Sports Commission Kicks Off 2010 Schedule with Akayama Ryu

GULF SHORES and ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Kicking off an extremely busy line-up of 2010 events, the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission welcomes its first two events of the New Year.

The 2010 Akayama Ryu Winter Camp is set for January 16 and 17 at the Orange Beach Recreation Center. All styles and ranks are welcome to this martial arts camp. Training on Saturday is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Individuals wishing to participate will pay $75.00 at the door. Also, the 2010 Polar Bear Classic Tennis Tournament will be held January 16 through 18 at the Orange Beach Tennis Center. This junior level tennis tournament – which is expecting 120 participants - has been designated as an Alabama level three event and Southern level five event. Play begins on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and spans through Monday. Admission is free of charge, and Cobalt Restaurant is sponsoring the 3-day event. The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events in February: Second Annual Mardi Gras Classic Soccer Tournament (February 12-14), USSSA NIT (February 12-14), the 2010 Sweetheart Run (February 13) and 17th Annual Gulf Coast Classic Volleyball Tournament (February 13-14).
