Youth Converge on AL Gulf Coast for Premier Basketball Tournament

GULF SHORES and ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Hoop action will soon begin in the Pleasure Island community as the Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission welcomes the 2nd Annual Youth Basketball of America Gulf Coast Challenge, May 29-31.“When we hosted this inaugural event last year, we had a moderate success of 35 teams playing in three gymnasiums,” said John Allen, event director. “However, this year has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to our partnership with the sports commission. We had 60 teams sign up by the end of March and are now sold out. Teams will be traveling to the area from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Louisiana.”
Matches will be held on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Play resumes on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. On the tournament’s final day (Sunday), the championship action is set for 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The following local gyms will host this event: Gulf Shores High School, Gulf Shores Middle School, Orange Beach Recreation Center, Gulf Shores Bodenhamer Center and Foley High School.
Admission is $4.00 on Friday, $5.00 for Saturday and $5.00 Sunday. This fee will grant fans all day access at any gym.
The Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission will welcome these upcoming events: USSSA South State Baseball Tournament (June 12-14), USSSA South State Tournament (softball) Kid’s Pitch State Tournament (baseball) (June 26-28) and the Gulf Shores Adult Tennis NTRP Classic (June 26-28).
